Sister Velvet
Sister Velvet
Sister Velvet was born when the "Women of Song" songwriting group decided to play as a band. Their music comes straight from the heart expressing emotions that everyone can relate to...a beautiful group of artists that share the love of songwriting. Sister Velvet is comprised of Jena Douglas, Mary Madden, Sherie Davis, Katheryn Boisen, and Rachel Morris.
Jena Douglas
Jena Douglas
Jen Douglas has been a singer/songwriter for over 30 years. She has an AA in music from Santa Barbara City College and a BA from University California Santa Barbara in music. She teaches music, privately and for a non-profit called, Girls Rock SB. She performs regularly with a couple of bands; The Stone Phoneys (a Linda Ronstadt Tribute), Women Of Songs' Sister Velvet and Jena Douglas Band.
Mary Madden
Mary Madden
Mary Madden began playing piano at age 9 and has her roots in classical music. Over the years she has become a multi instrumentalist and enjoys playing guitar, banjo and mandolin. She plays with Katheryn Boisen as the "Harmony Sisters" and they blend their beautiful harmonies with "Sister Velvet".
Katheryn Boisen
Katheryn Boisen
Katheryn Boisen began her musical career as a youngster in the smallish town of Carpinteria, playing and singing harmonies with her sisters (The Medel Sisters) at church festivals; singing in the church choir. Katheryn began writing her own songs in 2011 and has performed her originals around the Santa Barbara & Goleta and Carpinteria area. She joins forces with Women Of Song's Sister Velvet bringing a cheerful, harmonic sound, performing and collaborating on their variety of arrangements.
Sherie Davis
Sherie Davis
Sherie Davis started her musical career taking excruciatingly boring flute lessons at the age of 9 which continued for 9 years and then at the age of 10, she began guitar lessons! In 2003, she wrote her first song and has written a number of songs with the support of the amazing songwriting community in Santa Barbara and also the support of her songwriting group called, Women Of Song. She is now excited to be part of Sister Velvet!
Rachel Morris
Rachel Morris
Rachel Morris is a songwriter, singer, musician in the folk genre, with elements of irish, some rock and punk, and flecks of klezmer and back mountain sounds. She plays various guitars, banjo, and sometimes mandolin. A single parent, activist, and wilderness backpacker - her songs tend surve up a poetic, no-bullshit reflection of life.
