SB Jazz Society Presents: Kristin Korb Trio

Tickets at the Door
The Santa Barbara Jazz Society is excited to present the Kristin Korb Trio on Sunday, September 24 at SOhO from 1 to 4. There are few bassists who can sing and there are even fewer who do it well. Kristin Korb is one of those artists who make you forget that she is playing the bass when you hear her crystalline voice. Inspired by the days when music was romantic and made you want to dance, Kristin and her trio embody that spirit and carry their audiences along for the ride. Love eventually brought the American bassist and vocalist to Denmark in 2011, but she is back touring in the US and we are so pleased that she and her stateside musicians, pianist Andy Langham and drummer Ryan Korb, have chosen to entertain us. (Yes, that’s Kristin’s brother!)
Kristin earned her masters in Classical Bass Performance at the University of California, San Diego. She also studied with famous bassist, Ray Brown, with whom she made her recording debut.http://www.sohosb.com/event/1554035/
Concerts are held on the 1st or 2nd Sunday of each month at:
SOhO Restaurant and Music Club
1221 State Street, Santa Barbara
1 – 4 pm
A singing double bassist with a deep sense of swing, Korb combines the instrumental influence of Ray Brown and Charles Mingus with the vocal styling of Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald to create a sound all her own. Exhilarating to watch live, she sings and plays the bass as effortlessly as she breathes.
Each song performed on the album has its own personal significance for Korb. Introduced by mentors, colleagues and idols, these songs tell the story of a young girl in a Montana middle school who sees her first jazz ensemble and grows up to become a consummate jazz artist.
Korb and her All-Star trio featuring musical powerhouses Bruce Forman on guitar and Jeff Hamilton on drums, share an inspired set of popular songs using innovative arrangements. From Porter to Pinkard, Grouya to Caymmi — What’s Your Story? treats listeners to fresh renditions of some of the all time great compositions and introduces an original song.
